This award is offered each year for excellent work on the topic published or broadcast in Canada. Work submitted should be in the public interest in accordance with the principles of the Mindset guide. The award is sponsored exclusively by the Canadian Mental Health Association and independently adjudicated. There is also an equivalent award for work originating in French.

The criteria have been framed to celebrate excellence in stories about the mental health of children, youth and young adults, including a range of issues or conditions that, uncorrected, can contribute to trauma and suicide.  

For the 2024 competition, free online applications will open on February 3, 2025 and close on February 24, 2025. A link to the application form will appear on the rules page at that time. Applications may be made by media organizations by journalist/s responsible for the work.
